Gynecological Services

Gynecological services include the medical evaluation, clinical diagnosis, and treatment of the female reproductive organs and system. Crescent Women’s Medical Group’s gynecologists provide proactive healthcare with regular preventive wellness visits, as well as guidance and care for female-specific health issues, starting at puberty and continuing throughout a woman’s life. Each of our doctors has been in practice for many years and offers the knowledge only experience can provide.

Women’s Health Conditions and Issues

The services provided by a gynecological practice can vary. Gynecology covers a wide variety of medical care options for women. There are a number of different gynecological conditions, questions, and concerns that may be addressed with general gynecological services and some that may require specialization. Some of the more common gynecological conditions we treat are:

  • Routine well-woman examinations (breast and pelvic physical exams, Pap smear and other laboratory and imaging studies, as needed).
  • Assessment and treatment of pelvic infections, endometriosis and other female urinary and reproductive tract conditions.
  • Contraceptive counseling and delivery of HPV vaccinations for adolescents and young adults.
  • Diagnosis, management, and treatment of menstrual problems, such as heavy bleeding, cramping and PMS.
  • Management of menopause symptoms.
  • Advanced reproductive medicine to address fertility issues.
  • Fertility evaluations to identify issues in becoming pregnant.
  • Pregnancy testing.
  • Diagnosis and treatment of urinary and pelvic floor conditions.
  • General gynecologic surgery, such as hysterectomy, and minimally invasive procedures, such as laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, and endometrial ablation.
  • Cancer screenings, diagnosis, counseling, surgery and medical management for many types of gynecological cancers.

The Annual Gynecological Exam

The annual gynecological wellness exam is often the service most associated with a gynecologist’s practice. When most women think of the gynecologist, they usually associate the term with their once-a-year visit. Although gynecologists provide many other valuable and important services, the yearly wellness visit is a cornerstone that carries a great impact on a woman’s overall health. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends that annual gynecology exams start when a girl reaches puberty and continue throughout her life. The recommended frequency can increase, however, if a woman is determined to be at higher risk of certain reproductive system diseases. The goal of annual gynecology exams is to catch gynecological health conditions and diseases in the early stages when they are more easily treatable.

What Are the Benefits of Gynecology Services at Crescent Women’s Medical Group?

We know every woman is unique, as are her needs, and our doctors take pride in being not only involved in your sexual health but in your overall well-being. Visiting your gynecologist regularly is very important to knowing your own body and being able to detect any symptoms and issues that may arise. Preventative care helps to ensure that your good health continues and that you have a supportive, professional environment to grow in confidence and trust in times when problems may arise. Many women are being treated by primary care physicians and need to coordinate this care with their gynecological care. Whether you are being treated for diabetes, depression or high blood pressure, it is important that care is coordinated across all services, especially when medications are involved. If desired, our doctors can act as your primary care physician, integrating your gynecological needs and the needs of your overall health and well-being.

Am I a Candidate for Gynecological Services?

For girls that are age 13 and older, gynecology services are recommended. Many times, however, females experience menstruation, sexual activity and other indications that may require them to undergo a gynecology examination at a younger age.
